Quite an unexpected experience for a village pub -things have changed. We had an excellent Sunday lunch meal of traditional roast. The service was excellent.
We returned yesterday for a mid-week lunch in the bar. Again, very attentive service but very different food experience. Quiet Indian background music. Pub food, mostly priced at under £10 and a small Indian section.
Although cheaply priced, the Mediterranean sunrise toastie was served on soggy white bread the pie was quite dry. The chicken tika was delicious however.
Great to be able to play darts at lunchtime.

My first experience of a traditional Rajasthani meal. I ordered the takeaway Rajasthani Lal Maans which was excellent. A generous portion of lamb chunks in a spicy sauce with a nice but not over the top hit of chilli....accompanied by plain rice and freshly made Naan. 😋 Looking forward to trying other dishes in the near future.

We've just arrived back home from a lovely and unexpected evening. Really good choices of curry, very friendly and thoughtful staff, nice live accousticish set. Will definitely be back.

Arrived, no problem. Checking was quite easy. No issues. Room is clean and tidy. The bathroom is excellent. Couldn't fault it. Only give four for the room. Few little touches like mirror being put on the wall could have made a bit of an effort with the tea and coffee and maybe some pictures in the room just to give the room a bit of atmosphere .
Had an evening meal here with starters, main course and dessert which was excellent. Could not fault the service or the food. One of the nicest Indian meals I've had for a while. What was a nice surprise was to get up early in the morning and see the deer out of the window in the fields .Had breakfast booked for 8:00 a.m. but the place was still locked up. Nobody around a builder arrived and had to phone. The owner to remind them we were here for breakfast. There was no apologies whatsoever. This place could be a little gold mine if just a little bit of care and attention were put forward for the customers. They are obviously putting money into this place and doing it up which is great. They just need to think about the customer experience. They definitely need to organise themselves, especially for breakfast. Fresh coffee was made for us, but the cups look like they'd not been cleaned and were dirty. Had a full English breakfast which was cooked very well and extremely nice. This place has the potential to be something really good. Just need to pay a little bit more attention to the little details and the customer experience
but would I come back
yes

This was recommended to me by chance by a friend because apparently the curry was definitely worth a visit, so we decided to check it out on a Friday evening as I wanted a night off from cooking.
Initially I was a little dubious as there was a live music performer & it seemed more of a locals drinking pub, but we were seated in the quieter restaurant area & we ordered the meal option that included naan & rice. Presented in a bowl with the rice on the side, It was very tasty indeed. I had lamb & it was melt in the mouth tender.
I decided to return today with a group of elderly ladies I take out for lunch regularly.
One of them, celebrating her 90th Birthday had said she’d love a curry so what better place to go!
No issues with access for my friends who do have some mobility challenges. They all thoroughly enjoyed the food & I have to mention how incredibly good the staff were. The lady that took our orders was a perfect host, helpful & attentive. Then the cherry on the top was the fact that the other lovely lady (who I think might be one of the owners) presented my friend with a wonderful Birthday cake & flowers! Truly going above and beyond & it really made their day… I am incredibly grateful it made a very special birthday truly memorable. Great food & wonderful service. Thank you 🙏🏻

I recently attended Curry Night at Dog and Crook and it was an amazing experience! This pub/restaurant promises an authentic dining experience that blends traditional recipes with modern flair. Whether you’re a seasoned curry enthusiast or a newcomer to Indian food, Curry Night offers a memorable feast for the senses.
Food:
The variety of curries on offer was impressive, catering to both meat lovers and vegetarians. The naan bread was freshly baked in tandoor, soft, and buttery—perfect for scooping up the delicious sauces. The side dishes, like the samosas and chutneys, were also well-prepared and complemented the main courses beautifully.
Service:
The service was excellent, with staff being attentive without hovering. They were knowledgeable about the menu, offering helpful suggestions when we were unsure of what to choose. Our orders were served promptly, and they made sure our drinks were topped up throughout the evening.
Value for Money:
Given the quality of the food and the overall experience, I found Curry Night to be reasonably priced. The portions were generous, and the meal left me feeling satisfied without being overly full.
Overall:
Curry Night at Dog and Crook was a fantastic experience. Whether you’re a curry connoisseur or new to Indian cuisine, you’ll find something to enjoy. I highly recommend it for anyone looking for a flavourful and enjoyable dining experience.

We went to The Dog and Crook; Braishfield for an Indian dinner and absolutely loved the authentic taste of Indian cuisine offered by them. I have put details in the food and drinks section of the review.
Please note, we didn't use a room but I don't know how to leave a review for the food and drinks on its own.

We had the opportunity to visit in the evening, and the weather was delightful, which added to the experience. Beyond that, the food and service were superb. The staff was exceptionally kind and accommodating, ensuring we had a wonderful time. Thank you, D&C, for a lovely evening. This place is highly recommended as one of the best in town.

Lovely location, good size room, Nice decor & facilities. Our room, however, required some maintenance. TV screen was damaged & requires replacing and shower temperature regulator was sticking. They provide a varied menu & food was good, especially the gravy.... The staff are absolutely amazing & could not do enough for you. The owners, however, showed no respect to guests, taking over the pub, drinking in a large group & allowing their children to do what they pleased whilst you were trying to relax after your meal. During breakfast, the resident family walking around the pub in their pyjamas.

We had a celebratory lunch today for my friend's significant birthday.
The service was excellent, as was the tasty food.
The portions were nicely presented and generous.
My friend received very special attention from the staff including singing Happy Birthday.
We were amazed at the kindness and good wishes from all of the staff.
We hadn't been to the Dog and Crook for several years and noticed the changes in the restaurant decor were tasteful and modern.
We will definitely go back and encourage others to experience the ambience of this lovely pub.
